West Powellhurst Elementary & Centennial High School

At Portland State, graduate students in School Counseling are asked to complete two internships. One is a 400+ hour placement, and while the other is 200+ hours. Graduate students are asked to give a preference for the two placements, based on their interest in future professional work. I chose to complete my 400+ hour placement at an elementary school site, as most of my past experience has been in elementary and middle school settings and I feel that I connect well with this age group of students. I was more than happy to complete the 200+ hour placement at a high school, however, as I have had positive experiences working with teenagers and wanted to know more about the high school counselor's role(s) and the action research process. I found that I enjoyed many aspects of both placements, and can see myself bringing strengths to any age group!
