Job Description: School Counseling Intern
September 2011- June 2012
- Assisted in promoting and implementing a school counseling program according to ASCA guidelines.
- Taught guidance lessons on a variety of subjects to whole group classrooms in all grade levels, K-5.
- Contacted parents, guardians, and community members to provide support, gather information, or report safety concerns.
- Met with individual students for brief, focused counseling sessions as needs arose.
- Provided more in-depth, weekly individual counseling sessions to students with ongoing concerns.
- Planned for, promoted, and led small groups, such as Friendship/Interpersonal Skills, Boys Leadership, Girls Book Club, and Changing Families.
- Co-led the Student Leadership Club, in which trained students ran a weekly store using PBIS "money" system.
- Participated in behavioral (IPBIS) and special education (504, IEP) meetings, as well as parent conferences.
- Assisted with school-wide programs like Urban Gleaners, Clothes Closet, Holiday Food Drive, and Listen to Kids.
- Assisted with day-to-day duties such as cafeteria and bus duty, and check-in and -out (CICO) with students.
- Attended a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training in February 2012.
