Helen Gordon Community Clinic
For two quarters (20 weeks), I was given the opportunity to counsel in a clinical setting. I served as a counselor to individual adults, families, and children in three 50 minute sessions weekly. After the sessions, I was given feedback from a peer supervisor and professor, who watched all sessions via live videotaping. This provided me opportunities to grow from their experience and insights; I was exposed to many new techniques and skills. I practiced the following techniques in my time at the Helen Gordon Community Clinic:
- sand tray
- art therapy
- guided imagery/ meditation
- non-directive play therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- motivational interviewing
- mindfulness & meditation
- muscle relaxation techniques
- interpersonal neurobiology
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
